As a member of Cips for many years I feel the print buying role has not
really been supported by them as a specialist function and has been
watered down by the influx of print management companies using
general buyers who, without any real understanding of print process,
are placing vast amount of print usually on cost and usually after an
unsuitable e-auction. This has recently been highlighted in the report
about buyers not knowing and getting confused by the terms used by printers.
Something like this is long over due and in today's climate of increasing costs,
print buyers need to get together and pool their ideas to reduce costs
and reduce waste whilst improving services.
